Contest Report - Hopefully Pictures To Follow

Clint Loake has won the Jersey Bodyboarders Drop-Knee Open, which took place at Kempt Tower in small, but fun peaky 2ft surf, with a nice offshore breeze blowing.

The first of the semi-finals was fought out between Loake, Colin Crowther and Aiden Dixon, a visiting bodyboarder from the south island of New Zealand. Loake won the heat, performing a tail-slide reverse 360 and a floater on his highest scoring wave. Also advancing to the final was the stylish Dixon in 2nd, with Crowther, who attempted a drop-knee el-rollo, but failed to land it, in 3rd.

The second semi-final pitched the experienced Steve Pinzari, against two junior bodyboarders Phil Le Neveu and David Speller. Speller’s drop-knee riding has come on really well in recent months, and despite the weak waves during his heat, he put in a solid performance, which included a double forward 360, to take first place, ahead of Pinzari in 2nd and Le Neveu 3rd.

The waves were inconsistent for the final with only a handful of the bigger waves breaking on the outside. With each surfers three highest scoring waves counting towards their overall points tally, good wave selection would be essential. And so it proved, as Loake picked off two of the biggest waves of the final, pulling a fast reverse 360 on the first, and two reverse 360’s on the second A third good back-up wave was enough to give Loake the victory. The battle for 2nd place was closely fought out between Speller and Dixon, with the latter’s nice style and good re-entries on the inside waves just edging it. 4th place went to Pinzari, who found a few good waves, but being quite tall, ideally needed to have bigger surf to get going.

Surf Relief Day Expression Session

Colin Laurent has won the fundraising Surf Relief Day Expression Session which took place in good fun 3ft surf at La Saline.

A free for all format with the added twist of a no surf etiquette ruling, meant for a great fun session, with plenty of big manoeuvres, plenty of classic drop-ins, and a few good wipe-outs.

Highlights of the session included Clint Loake stand-up tube and a big ARS (Air roll spin), Colin Laurent launching some ARS's of his own, Terry Oliviera's attempted headstands, Phil Le Neveu getting launched on an air roll, and his Dad Gary charging through a few hollow ones.

The event was held in great spirit, with all who took part getting their fair share of good rides. Overall the club managed to raise approx £150.00, which will be donated to Tsunami Surf Relief UK, the main organisers of Surf Relief Day, which has so far raised over £10,000 for Tsunami victims.
